Poverty in Huntsville, Alabama

The Huntsville, Alabama area has an overall strong economy. Technnology, space, and defense industries are heavily rooted in the city with Cummings Research Park, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, and the U.S. Army's Redstone Arsenal.  However, the Huntsville area has a large number of people living in and near poverty.

  • Huntsville Population: 417,519
  • % Below Poverty Level: 10.3% (34,486)

  • Huntsville residents with income below the poverty level: 13.1%
