AOD will be awarding up to seven $1,000 scholarships in 2018 for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program at the North Alabama School for CNAs. Training will be scheduled for 2018, with specific dates arranged between the school and student. Applications are due August 4, 2018. The Alliance for Opportunity and Development (AOD), in conjunction with our friend and former board member Jeff Coggin, contributed funds toward sending Kyren and JaVonn Holman to summer camp at Auburn University.
AOD welcomes new board member Stephanie LeBlanc. Stephanie joined AOD as a volunteer in 2016 and became a board member in December 2017.

Ashley Battle: Ashley completed Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training in May 2016 with an AOD scholarship. She worked as a CNA in a nursing home and rehabilitation center and now works at Crestwood Hospital. She starts school in January 2018 to become a Registered Nurse. Ashley says “Thank you so much you guys actually changed my life!!!!” |

Sharee Brinson-Mitchell: Sharee was awarded an AOD scholarship in 2014 for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training at J.F. Drake State. Sharee was immediately employed as a caregiver after obtaining her license and was later hired in July 2015 at Huntsville Hospital working on the elective surgery floor. Sharee started in May 2016 working full-time for Fresenius Medical Care as a Patient Care Technician for dialysis patients. She recently got her certification as a Hemodialysis Technician. Fresenius has a tuition assistance benefit she will use to begin the nursing program at J.F. Drake State. Sharee plans to start the nursing program in the Spring of 2018.

Martha Collins: Martha’s AOD scholarship allowed her to complete her last semester and graduate from J.F. Drake State’s Practical Nursing program in December 2015. She passed her state exam in January 2016 and was hired at a nursing home and rehabilitation center in February 2017. She now works full-time at Magnolia Trace Retirement Community and part-time/on-call at Millenium Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Martha will be starting school in the Summer or Fall of 2018 to become a Registered Nurse.

Monica Tackett: Monica graduated from J.F. Drake State’s Practical Nursing program in May 2017, passed her state exam, and is now a charge nurse at Redstone Village. She is also in school to become a Registered Nurse.
