Monica Tackett - Licensed Practical Nurse

Monica graduated from Hazel Green High School with an Advanced Alabama High School Diploma in May 2005. She met her husband at church in 2004 and they married in November 2006. They now have 3 daughters, a 6-year old and 3-year old twins. She also has a few nieces and nephews who she has had a large hand in raising since they were born. Monica had never planned to go to college to further her education. She was happy working a retail job that she had for almost 10 years. In August 2013, one of her nieces was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML). Monica immediately went with her niece and her mom to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. She traveled back and forth from Huntsville and Memphis for the month she was there while still tending to her own children. The impact the nurses at St. Jude’s made on her made her decide to be one of them.

Not many nurses will personally make a milkshake or ice cream sundae at 1:00 in the morning just because your child wants one. Monica's niece is now in remission but still gets monthly checks at the St. Jude Clinic here in Huntsville. Monica says the nurses here are just as amazing as the ones in Memphis. In April 2014, she decided it was time to go to school and begin accomplishing her dream. She applied to a few different schools and decided on J.F. Drake State as they were affordable and closest to home. She began classes in August 2014 and began nursing classes in August 2015. Monica graduated in May 2017 as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She was hired August 1, 2017 as a charge nurse at Redstone Village. She is currently in school continuing her education to become a Registered Nurse.
